Jindabyne, Perisher and Thredbo By Air

Virgin Blue and Qantas airlines fly into Canberra Airport on a regular basis from Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane. Canberra is approximately two hours from Jindabyne by car (190km) and can be accessed via Car Hire or Coach transfers (during winter) from the airport. Rex Airlines offer a daily service to Snowy Mountains Airport just west of Cooma. Coach Transfers Are available during the winter season, June long weekend through to October long weekend.

By Road

Travelling to Jindabyne is a picturesque tourist drive and is approximately: 5.5 hours from Sydney, 6.5 hours from Melbourne, 2 hours from Canberra, 3 hours from Albury-Wodonga via Corryong and Khancoban.

Driving from Sydney to Jindabyne and Thredbo

Follow the Hume Highway from Sydney then just south of Goulburn take the Federal Highway and travel south to Canberra. This section of the trip is on a mainly divided road. At Canberra follow the signs to the Monaro Highway to Cooma. The road then joins the Kosciuszko Rd that you follow through the town of Berridale and onto Jindabyne. About two kilometres past Jindabyne Town take a left onto the Alpine Way to Thredbo and the Ski Tube or continue straight ahead to Perisher Valley.

Driving from Melbourne to Jindabyne

Follow the Hume Highway from Melbourne to Wodonga. Take the Murray Valley Highway “To Wodonga / Tallagatta” exit and follow the signs “To Tallangatta”. Then after passing Wodonga follow the signs to Tallangatta again on the Murray Valley Highway. You pass through the village of Koetong onto Corryong. Drive through Corryong and take the “Khancoban” turn off on your right. Once in Khancoban you are only 76kms from Thredbo. For Perisher Valley and Jindabyne continue past Thredbo until you reach a T junction approximately 30km from Thredbo. Turn left for Perisher Valley or right for Jindabyne. From here the drive to Perisher is truly spectacular as you take in awesome views of the Main Range and discover the beauty of the Kosciuszko National Park. The roads are clear for most of the year but when a big snow fall hits, chains may be required for 2-wheel vehicles. These can be hired in Jindabyne, Thredbo or Khancoban.
